Health Systems & Health Economics Expert
I am an expert in health systems and health economics with extensive global experience. I hold a Ph.D. and a master's degree in health economics from the University of Cape Town, an MPH from Manchester Metropolitan University, a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Asmara, and a Higher Diploma in health professionals' education from Addis Ababa. My academic career includes a notable Ph.D. internship at the World Institute for Development Economics Research, United Nations University, where I focused on hospital efficiency in sub-Saharan Africa. My expertise covers a broad range of areas, including quantitative analysis, costing of health interventions, equity and efficiency in health systems, health systems strengthening, health technology assessments, health financing and social health insurance, and the epidemiology and economics of disease control. With nearly three decades of experience, I have provided technical support to various countries as a staff member of the World Health Organization and other health departments, and I have held teaching positions at higher education institutions. I have also authored over 43 research papers, as well as book chapters and institutional working papers. I have also served as an Associate Editor for BMC Human Rights and International Health and BMC Public Health, reviewed for numerous journals, and occasionally acted as an external examiner for theses.
