About the Course
This course on Mastering Systematic Reviews is tailored for healthcare professionals who aim to master the rigorous methodology used to synthesize research findings in clinical and healthcare settings. Systematic reviews provide critical evidence to support clinical decision-making, improve patient care, and inform healthcare policies. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of systematic review processes, including how to formulate research questions, conduct comprehensive literature searches, critically assess data quality, and synthesize evidence through both qualitative and quantitative methods. This hands-on course will provide the tools necessary to conduct independent systematic reviews, ensuring transparency, reproducibility, and adherence to established standards such as PRISMA.
Course Objectives
Understand the Importance of Systematic Reviews in Healthcare: By understanding how systematic reviews aggregate and synthesize evidence from primary studies, participants will be able to recognize the pivotal role these reviews play in shaping healthcare policies and practices. Emphasis will be placed on how systematic reviews guide evidence-based practice and improve patient care outcomes by eliminating bias and synthesizing the most reliable evidence available.
Master the PICO(T) Framework for Formulating Research Questions: This structured approach, which includes Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Time, will help participants identify specific issues in healthcare that can be addressed through systematic review. The course will guide participants in developing questions that are both relevant to clinical practice and research, setting the foundation for effective and targeted literature searches.
Conduct Thorough Literature Searches and Data Extraction: In this course, participants will learn how to perform comprehensive and systematic literature searches, ensuring they capture all relevant studies on their topic of interest. Participants will also be trained to extract data from research articles in a standardized way, ensuring that key study information is consistently recorded. By adhering to explicit and reproducible methods, participants will reduce bias and ensure that all relevant evidence is considered when conducting systematic reviews.
Critically Appraise Evidence and Synthesize Findings: Participants will learn both qualitative and quantitative synthesis methods, such as meta-analysis, and how to interpret the findings to make well-informed recommendations. By the end of the course, participants will be able to compile and report systematic review results in a manner that adheres to the PRISMA guidelines, ensuring transparency, reproducibility, and clarity in their final reports. This will enable them to contribute valuable insights to clinical practice and healthcare policy.
