About the Course
Welcome to the course on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a critical global health challenge that threatens the effectiveness of medications and the health of communities worldwide. AMR occurs when pathogens like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve to resist the drugs designed to combat them, making infections harder to treat and leading to increased mortality and disease transmission. The consequences of AMR extend beyond healthcare, affecting food production, environmental sustainability, and economic stability. In alignment with World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW), which is held annually from November 18-24, this course will explore the importance of education, advocacy, and action to address AMR. The 2024 WAAW theme, “Educate. Advocate. Act Now,” reflects the urgency of a unified global response to the AMR crisis. This course aims to equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to make an impact in your community and beyond, contributing to the fight against AMR. Throughout this course, we will examine the role of education in raising awareness, advocacy in mobilizing resources and commitments, and concrete actions that individuals and communities can take to prevent the spread of drug-resistant infections. By the end of the course, you will have a deeper understanding of AMR and be empowered to advocate for and contribute to its prevention in your professional and personal spheres.
